Is traditional main stream media dead?

A new report says that the number two source for news is not in black and white but ones and zeros. The internet has surpassed newspapers as the second most popular news source for Americans. Dana Loesch says there are many things that people can do with new media that traditional newspapers and magazines simply cannot and that is adding to their demise.

http://www.crisiseconomica2010.com/Inicio/tabid/36/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/312/Desnudando-el-emperador-de-como-El-Pais-y-La-Vanguardia-atacan-de-nuevo-a-Teresa-Forcades.aspx

Obama Versus Blogosphere

http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2009/09/dear-president-obama-blogs-fact-check.html
http://www.corporations.org/media/media-ownership.gif
[Media monopolization since the 1980s]

"I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding."
· Barack Obama ·

Problems with the mainstream reporting:
  • Widespread self-censorship by journalists.
  • Censorship from editors and producers.
  • Pro-war bias.
  • Government censorship.
  • And, of course, money.
The whole debate about blogs versus mainstream media is nonsense.
In fact, many of the world's top PhD economics professors and financial advisors have their own blogs...
The same is true in every other field: politics, science, history, international relations, etc.
So what is "news"? What the largest newspapers choose to cover? Or what various leading experts are saying - and oftentimes heatedly debating one against the other?
As blogger Michael Rivero pointed out years ago, mainstream newspapers aren't losing readers because of the Internet as an abstract new medium. They are losing readers because they have become nothing but official stenographers for the powers-that-be, and people have lost all faith in them.
Indeed, only 5% of the pundits discussing various government bailout plans on cable news shows are real economists. Why not hear what real economists and financial experts say?
"In reality, the best blogs offer far more fact-checking and
context than the mainstream media."

http://www.tendencias21.net/El-software-libre-garantiza-el-anonimato-en-internet_a3391.html

Lonely? Bond with a TV character

http://www.theprovince.com/News/Lonely+Bond+with+character/1538441/story.html
http://www.herbiejr.com/Images/tv.gifhttp://interfacematters.com/images/tv.gif
Good news for anyone who's ever spent a solitary night with the gang from Grey's Anatomy: it's not just you.[!!!]
A new study suggests favourite TV shows serve as proxies when real friends are in short supply, leaving people feeling less lonely in the company of their favourite programs.[...yeah, I know. Crazy, isn't it?]
"We need connections to other people almost as much as we need food and water," says author Jaye Derrick, a research associate at the State University of New York at Buffalo. "To me, it made sense that television could be an extension of that need, a way of temporarily fulfilling that need while we aren't able to seek connection to other people."
The idea for the [!]study[!] came when Derrick noticed that watching TV made her feel better after an argument with a boyfriend or friend.

South Korean Actress Commits Suicide; Used As Sex Slave For The 'Elite'

When Jang Ja-yeon killed herself at her home earlier this month, she not only deprived South Korea of a wildly popular soap star. In a damning letter naming the men responsible for the distress that may have caused her to take her life aged 26, Jang heaped shame on the country's entertainment industry with allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation.

In the seven-page letter, written a week before her death, the star of Boys Over Flowers, South Korea's most avidly watched soap opera, chronicled the sexual and other favours she was expected to extend to progress in the cutthroat "Korean Wave" of TV and film.

After making her debut in a 2006 TV commercial, Jang cemented her fame as a vindictive schoolgirl in the soap, and was awaiting the release of her first two films when she died. Almost one million fans visited her website in the 48 hours after her death, on 7 March.

Her allegations, leaked to the media, have prompted an outcry and forced the police to investigate her relationships with several powerful men.
