Game Theory

Game theory is a branch of applied mathematics that is used in the social sciences, most notably in economics, as well as in biology, engineering, political science, international relations, computer science, and philosophy. Game theory attempts to mathematically capture behavior in strategic situations, in which an individual's success in making choices depends on the choices of others. While initially developed to analyze competitions in which one individual does better at another's expense (zero-sum games), it has been expanded to treat a wide class of interactions, which are classified according to several criteria. Today, "game theory is a sort of umbrella or 'unified field' theory for the rational side of social science, where 'social' is interpreted broadly, to include human as well as non-human players (computers, animals, plants)."

Zero-sum

In game theory and economic theory, zero-sum describes a situation in which a participant's gain or loss is exactly balanced by the losses or gains of the other participant(s). If the total gains of the participants are added up, and the total losses are subtracted, they will sum to zero. Zero-sum can be thought of more generally as constant sum where the benefits and losses to all players sum to the same value of money (or utility). Cutting a cake is zero- or constant-sum, because taking a larger piece reduces the amount of cake available for others. In contrast, non-zero-sum describes a situation in which the interacting parties' aggregate gains and losses is either less than or more than zero. Zero sum games are also called strictly competitive.

'Unusual' UFOs Drop Into Phuket, Thailand

A family in Phuket had a close encounter with unidentified falling objects at the weekend when about a hundred small spheres 'dropped from the sky' onto their roof and garden.
The family of six said the transparent balls fell on their home in Wichit about 9am on Sunday directly after a rain shower.
“After the rain had stopped, we heard the sound of things falling on the roof,” said home owner 52-year-old Paweenarak Boonsiew.
Her son then went outside and discovered more than a hundred small, transparent balls on the ground.
The spheres each measure about one centimeter in diameter and are soft and pliable. They have no coloring and do not give off any odor.
Officials from the the Phuket Medical Sciences Center later collected some of the spheres for further examination, leaving the rest with Ms Paweenarak, who said she would keep them for good luck.
A spokesperson for the center told the Gazette that the collected spheres had been sent by plane to the Department of Medical Sciences in Bangkok.
“The findings will be announced as soon as possible,” said the officer.

Then, you have Russian and German leaders meeting in Poland and forcing the US to back off its plan to put missiles there. It is like saying to the US: “Eastern Europe is no longer your turf.”

La asociación tarraconense Xarxa Eco es una red formada por un grupo de personas que promueven la instauración de una moneda social a la que han bautizado como eco. El pasado 14 de julio, los miembros de esta entidad celebraron su primera reunión, en la que se decidió iniciar el proceso de implantación de su proyecto.

Bloop -An Unexplained Phenomenon

The 'bloop' is the name given to an ultra-low frequency underwater sound detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration several times during the summer of 1997.
The source of the sound remains unknown....
